Little Things

I love a spin or a twist on a classic piece of clothing.  I was drawn to this skirt, not only because I love all things striped, but because of the way that it drapes and gives the stripes a new dimension.   I paired it with, what appears to be, a basic polo shirt; but is actually a basic polo shirt with a secret pineapple printed under the collar.  Sometimes, the little things are what really count.  And after this past weekend, I am absolutely finding solace in the little things.

I was out for dinner and drinks at Cava Mezze in Arlington on Friday.  As always, the food was beyond and I was in the best of company.  After our meal, and smack dab in the middle of our post-dinner drink, the most out of control, hurricane-like storm rolled through.  Now, from the comfort of our dark, candlelit table at Cava, we honestly didn’t think much of it.  Yes, the power went out, and yes, we were stuck there for some time…but how bad could it really be?

Over 2 million people in the DC Metro area lost power that night.  I am one of the hundreds of thousands that still doesn’t have power today.  We were under a heat advisory all weekend and the government has declared a state of emergency.  Trees are down everywhere, street lights are still out.  Finding an operating gas station on Saturday required a 10 mile trip in bumper to bumper traffic.  It has been a rough weekend; but things could always be worse, and we still have so much to be thankful for.  That being said, I’ll continue to say thank you for the little things.
